Treating your family as our own.

For us, it's not just about conducting funeral services; it's about extending a hand of compassion and support during life's most challenging moments.

What is the inspiration behind Shaw & Sons?

Why do we do what we do?

As a sophomore at Kittitas High School in the late 90’s, our owner, Jamin Mohler, had just finished making his baseball bat in woodshop class. His friend and classmate, David Tatro, was intently working on a very detailed inlaid horse head masterpiece. When David’s life was cut short, with his woodshop project left incomplete, Jamin was given the high honor and somber responsibility of finishing David’s woodshop project. Once completed, the Mohler and Tatro families had dinner together, and Jamin was able to present the finished horse head project to David’s grieving family. This experience set Jamin on the trajectory of a lifetime in service to the grieving, caring for those who have experienced loss.

It was a simple woodshop project, but it was a defining moment in Jamin’s life. As a young teen, the fulfillment received by making a difference left an indelible impact. That mission has continued to define and shape the purpose and passion of Shaw & Sons Funeral Home.

To meet our staff, is to recognize that we are a team of dedicated professionals who serve our communities with unassuming, first-class care.

Shaw & Sons Funeral Home is recognized as the oldest and most historic funeral home in Yakima County. Tracing its roots back to the 1800s when the Shaw family diversified from their furniture shop. Throughout the years, Shaw & Sons Funeral Home had been sold, purchased, and sold again by various remote corporations. In 2019, the Mohler Family purchased Shaw & Sons Funeral Home to restore it to local ownership and serve our community with excellence and a family-first approach.

We are your small town, family-owned funeral home. We are proud to be your neighbors and friends, caring for you with our local ownership and staff.

We are thankful for our local reputation and our impeccable standing with the Washington State Funeral & Cemetery Board as well as the Washington State Insurance Commissioner.

As it was those many years ago with the Tatro Family and David’s horse head project, our family and our staff stand ready to make a difference, walking with you through some of life's most difficult moments, with compassionate service and helpful guidance, while continuing the Shaw & Sons Funeral Home time honored tradition of caring.

Honoring Veterans

Our debt to the veterans of our armed forces is both sacred and dutifully undertaken with each veteran we serve. With our own daughter, Abigail, engaged to a member of the Army National Guard, our family thanks all of those who have placed such priority on American ideals and the defense of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
