Obituary of Dorothy Fontaine
Dorothy Veronica (Vogel) (Summers) Fontaine passed away peacefully at Brookdale Chesterley Assisted Living, on March 15, 2018. She was born April 23, 1919, in Marion, South Dakota, to Fred Vogel and Frances (Weber) Vogel. Dorothy graduated from Doland High School. She moved to Yakima, WA, and worked at Newberry's as floor manager. She later moved back to South Dakota, where she met and married John Summers on December 30, 1953, and moved to The Dalles, Oregon, where they lived with their family until John's death in 1967. Dorothy moved her family to Yakima, WA, where she served school lunches. She married Tony Fontaine in 1979. She was a devoted Catholic and member of the Catholic Daughters of America. She loved to sew and do embroidery and also play pinochle. She adored playing games with her great grandchildren, Taylor Rae and Mason, when they visited her every week.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents, 3 brothers, and 4 sisters. She is survived by her daughter Christine (Summers) Mullinnex (Scott); and her son Mark Summers; her grandchildren Andrew Mullinnex (Krista), Hollie Mullinnex, Kari Phifer (Christoper), and Jamie Vickerman (Justin), and her great grandchildren: Taylor Rae Mullinnex, Mason Scott Mullinnex, Dominic Phifer, Korinn Phifer, Colton Phifer, Grant Vickerman, Grace Vickerman, and Annie Phifer.
I would like to give a special "thank you" to the caregivers, med techs, and staff at Brookdale Chesterley. Thank you for taking such great care of my mother. She loved you all.
Viewing will be held at Shaw & Sons Funeral Directors, Tuesday evening, March 20, 2018, from 4 PM to 8 PM, 201 N. 2nd Street. The Mass of Christian Burial will be on Wednesday, March 21, at 10 AM at St. Paul Cathedral, 12th Avenue and Chestnut Avenue, Yakima. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery.
