Francine Elizabeth Bodvin Obituary (1952 - 2026)

Francine Elizabeth Bodvin of Yakima, WA, born November 8, 1952 - passed away on January 8, 2026. Fran was an only child born to Frank Edward Elam and Elizabeth Mary Trochta in Washington, D.C. Her parents were originally from Oklahoma where her father obtained a Masters degree in Electronic Engineering followed by serving in the US Navy during WWII. Her mother grew up on a farm in Oklahoma and she and her older sister Libby were raised by their grandmother Maria Unger, originally from the Czech Republic. Fran grew up in Rockville, Maryland and attended Georgetown University after high school graduation, double-majoring in French and Chinese languages, and obtaining a Masters in Chinese Language.. In 1976, upon college graduation, Fran immediately began her career as research analyst with the Department of Defense. There she met her husband, Leo Hiett Bodvin. In October of 1982, Fran married Leo Hiett Bodvin and became an instant mother of his two boys, Chris and Eric, discovering, to her surprise, a quite challenging second career. She served her country throughout her career and retired with her husband in 2002 in Yakima, Washington after 26 years of service. Fran loved languages. She was an avid reader of science, fantasy and mystery fiction. She also enjoyed creating artistic things such as cardmaking, crocheting, beading and quilting. Fran was a cat lover, having adopted several strays throughout her life. Fran is survived by her stepsons, Christopher Hiett Bodvin and Eric Matthew Bodvin, their wives Rachelle and Kristen Bodvin respectively, and 5 step-grandchildren: Sarah Bodvin Bloser, Thomas, Zane, Bailey and Elizabeth Bodvin. Fran also has several relatives in Oklahoma among the Trochta, Skocdapol and Pernicka families, as well as some far-flung Elam families. Shaw & Sons Funeral Home is caring for the family.
