Lucille 'Tiny' Marie Ferguson-McFarland Obituary (1934

Lucille Marie Ferguson Wright McFarland passed away peacefully at home on October 17, 2022. She was born April 29, 1934, in Oroville, Washington, to Austin and Bessie Fisher Ferguson. Her grandfather, James Ferguson, was the first U.S. Marshall of the Montana Territory and later became the first sheriff of Billings Montana. She got the nickname "Tiny" from her older sister when she was born. Her dad sang this song about a "tiny baby", and she thought that Tiny was her name. The nickname stuck throughout her entire life. She graduated from Wapato High School in 1952 and married Jack Wright. They had four incredible children. They divorced in 1972 but remained friends throughout the years. In 1956 she went to work for the City of Toppenish in the City Clerks office. She was the first Deputy Clerk Treasurer for the city of Toppenish. She left in 1972 to pursue other opportunities. Fast forward to 1977, when she met and married Richard "Dick" McFarland and moved to Yakima. She worked for the Holiday Inn for a short time, then in 1980 she worked for the Stone Fruit Marketing Committees. She retired in 2006 as manager. She was elected as "Cherry King" that year, which was a great honor for her to be recognized by the cherry industry. She ventured into politics and served as commissioner for the Terrace Heights Sewer district. She is preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Evelyn Ervin, and Helen Stuber, and brother, Charles Ferguson. Also, her beloved daughter, Cynthia Howard, and husband, Dick McFarland, and first husband, Jack Wright. She is survived by brothers, Melvin, and James Ferguson, her devoted children, son, Michael Wright, of Selah, and daughter, Jonni (Barry) Murphy, and grand-puppy, Lena, of Yakima, and Timothy Wright, of Idaho, three grandsons, Michael Wright II, Thomas, and Jake Howard, her favorite granddaughter, Thailee Wright (Austin) Rodriquez, and numerous nieces and nephews. The best times of her life were spent with her children, traveling to rodeos with her daughters to watch her son in roping competitions, trips to Mexico, and let's not forget her love of traveling to the Oregon beaches. So let us not weep because she had an incredible life! So, lift a glass of wine to her and send her on her way. The family would like to extend a very heartfelt thanks to Heartlinks Hospice Care Team that helped her transition from this life to the next! A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, October 29, 2022, at 1:00pm, at Shaw and Sons Funeral Home. A Reception will follow.
