Obituary of Gordon F. Meeske

Gordon Meeske, born 9 Jan. 1926 in Yakima, WA, passed away 3 June 2018 in Bellevue, WA. Married to Lena Violet Greer 13 June 1954 until present. Son of Lillian & Louis Meeske, brother of Wallace Meeske.

Education: graduated from Moxee High School, 1944, Yakima Valley Jr. College, 1948, BA from Pacific Lutheran University, 1952, and MA from University of Washington, 1961.

Employment: Coffee Cup Café, dishwasher – 1944 (1st full-time job), Montgomery Ward (during high school) – 1943-44, Civil Service, Veterans Administration in Yakima / Seattle – 2 years, J.C. Penney & No. Ft. Lewis (while attending PLU) 1950-52 – 2 years, Eatonville High School – Eatonville, WA – 1952-54 – 2 years, Davis High School – Yakima, WA – 1966-67 – 1 year, Franklin High School – Seattle, WA – 1954-81 – 27 years, Lakeside High School – Seattle, WA – 1981-91 – 10 years, Meadowbrook, Director of Medical Records – Seattle, WA – 1988-96 – 8 years.

Military: Rifleman – 97th Infantry Division, 386th Inf Reg, Co. F (World War II) – 13 June, 1944 – 28 May, 1946. Served in combat in the Rhineland, Ruhr Valley and met up with the Russian soldiers in Pilsen, Czechoslovakia, May 1945. Then served ten months occupational duties in Tokyo, Japan. Received: Combat Infantryman’s Badge, European Theater with two bronze service stars for battle participation, Asiatic Pacific Theater Service Medal, Victory Medal (WWII), Army of Occupation Medal (Japan) and the Good Conduct Medal

Church: Lifetime member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church (Yakima) and Trinity Lutheran Church (Seattle). Director of Trinity Lutheran Fellowship Club (Coffee Hour) ever since March 1993.

Survivors: Lena Violet Meeske and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial Service: To be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1200 10th Ave. E., Seattle, WA 98102, Saturday, 16th of June 2018 from 1-4 pm. Burial Service with Military Honors to be held at Terrace Heights Memorial Park, Yakima, WA 98901, Wednesday, 20th of June 2018 from 3-4 pm.

Gordon Meeske with be remembered by his wife, Lena of 64 years, by his many friends and neighbors and by the numerous students he had in his many classes where he taught Business Education. Gordon and Lena have been caretakers and friends in their Eastgate neighborhood for many years.
