Obituary of Gussie Hansen
Gussie Byars Hansen was born in Roaring Springs, Texas on October 5, 1924 and departed this world on June 4, 2018.
Gussie worked as “Rosie the Riveter” at Consolidated Aircraft in Fort Worth, Texas starting in 1942 where she met her husband Eugene (Gene) Hansen. Gussie and Gene were married in 1945 and celebrated 50 years of marriage prior to Gene’s death in 1996.
Gussie and Gene resided in Stanton, Nebraska from 1945-1975 and were successful small business co-owners of the Stanton Hatchery for 28 years with Gene’s brother Leo Hansen and wife Arllys. They enjoyed the rural farming environment and many lifelong friendships they developed while residing in Stanton. In 1975, Gussie and Gene relocated to Yakima, Washington to start a new life chapter.
Gussie worked at Hillcrest Dress Shop, retired from People’s Bank (US Bank) in 1987, and spent 9 years with Gene RVing and square dancing across the US. After Gene’s death, Gussie spent 17 years snow birding in Arizona, enjoying an active life playing cards, hiking (including the Grand Canyon), spending time with family and socializing with both old and new friends.
Gussie is survived by her 6 children, Richard (Margaret) Hansen, Roger Hansen, Shirley Hansen, Stephen (Deanna) Hansen, Theresa (Marv) Condotta and Barbara (Terry) Cruz, along with 13 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
Special thanks to the team at the Hillcrest Living Care Center who brought joy and kindness to Gussie’s final months; she loved all of you and the family is forever appreciative for the compassion and amazing support that was provided.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to Living Care Center in Yakima, Washington, or Virginia Mason Memorial Hospice program.
