Obituary of Jerry Young
Jerry passed away suddenly January 5th 2019 at the age of 69. He was born on August 15th 1949 to Cooper and Syble Young in Everton, Ak. The family moved to the Yakima Valley in the late 1950’s. Jerry graduated from Naches Valley High School in 1967. He attended two years at Yakima Valley Community College. He married Sharon Kay Davidson in 1969. Jerry worked at Nordburg’s in Gleed and Snokist Cannery in Terrace Heights. He finished his career at Tree Top in Selah where he worked for nearly 40 years. He retired in 2015. He very much enjoyed his time at Tree Top working with the crew in shipping in his early years and later in the field office.
Jerry was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, and friend. Jerry coached many of his sons’ sports when they were young including: basketball, baseball, and soccer. He loved spending time with all of his grandkids, teaching them to ride bikes, fish, and enjoy the outdoors.
He loved to fish and hunt with all of his buddies in the Naches area. The group was so well known that it was named the Gleed Motel. He loved spending time fishing and camping with his wife Sharon and all of their family and friends. One of Jerry’s favorite spots was Westport and Ilwaco where every year for the past 40 years the family made an annual fishing trip.
Jerry was an excellent cook. He enjoyed cooking and processing wild game. His salami, jerky, and meats were some of the best around. He would share his recipes but nobody could match his ability to duplicate them. He would always compliment somebody else’s attempt to make their own but would always have a friendly critic… “maybe you should have added another tablespoon or two of cracked pepper”.
Jerry is survived by his wife Sharon, they would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this July 18th, his two sons Stacy Young (Heather) and Reggie Young (Kim), and 4 grandchildren; Morgan (17), Kyle (15), Cameron (14), and Jayla (12). He is also survived by brothers: Ronnie (Linda), Mitch (Sandy), and Willie (Karen) all of Gleed. Along with all of his nieces and nephews, sharing in the family’s grief is all of Sharon’s sisters and brothers.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Bob (Lynett) and his sister Kathryn, Martha, and Bertha.
The funeral service will be held at Memorial Bible Church on Saturday, January 12th at 11 am with a reception immediately following. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Memorial Bible Church.
