Obituary of Elizabeth Ann Sanderson (DiBenedetto)
Elizabeth Ann “Sue” Sanderson, age 81, went peacefully to the Lord on March 26, 2019 following a short illness at Virginia Mason Memorial Hospital in Yakima, Washington.
Sue was born on April 11, 1937 in Yakima, Washington to the late Clarence and Gladys Keller. She was preceded in death by her first husband of 23 years, Paul Francis DiBenedetto. Paul and Sue raised their four children throughout high school with a Catholic upbringing.
Sue graduated from St. Joseph’s Academy in 1955. She worked as a Dental Assistant for ten years. She then raised 4 children and lovingly supported them throughout all of their endeavors. Sue returned to work and retired after 15 years as a manager for the Washington State Liquor Control Board. She was a devoted member of Holy Family Catholic Church from the time it was built in 1969 and enjoyed her volunteer work at Saint Elizabeth Hospital for five years.
She will be dearly missed and is survived by her husband, David A. Sanderson; her brother Dick Keller and wife Elaine of Lake Forest Park; her daughters, Kelley DiBenedetto of Yakima, and Kathleen DiBenedetto Sattler of Selah; her two sons and their wives, Steven and Denise DiBenedetto of West Valley, and Scott and Michelle DiBenedetto of Bothell. Sue also had 3 stepchildren; Cheryl Sanderson-Elgin and husband Buster Elgin, Lisa and husband Chris Belling, and David E. Sanderson; 9 grandchildren, Jake, Calvin, Madelyn, Megan, Connor, Dustin, Joshua, MaKayla, and Samantha; her three step-grandchildren, Brian, Bo, and Jerrod and 3 great-grandchildren.
Sue enjoyed spending time with her spouse David A. Sanderson; playing dominoes and card games. In their later years Sue and Dave spent the majority of their time appreciating nature while watching the animals at their cabin on Chinook Pass. Sue loved her time with family and friends. She was always laughing and had an infectious sense of humor. Sue’s family fondly remembers her competitive nature while making one dollar sports bets and cheering on her favorite football teams; the Cougars and the Raiders. She was known for constantly changing family recipes and sending treasured 2 dollar bills in birthday cards to the grandkids.
The Rosary will be at 5pm Thursday April 4th at Holy Family Chapel with the viewing to follow.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30am on Friday, April 5th, at Holy Family Catholic Church with a luncheon reception to follow in the gathering hall.
The family of Elizabeth Sanderson wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Virginia Mason Memorial Hospital Staff, Holy Family Catholic Church, and Shaw and Sons Funeral home for all of their compassion and support through this difficult time.
